Wrong aspect ratio in retro arch 1.7.5 / 1.7.6 for 320x200 Games
Posted by: hamster3001 - 02-25-2019, 11:19 PM - Forum: Support - Replies (13)

Hi just wanted to migrate this thread:

https://forums.libretro.com/t/crt-switch...em/20990/3

The problem in short: the aspect ratio for games that use 320x200 (for example DOS Games (DosBox) or ScummVM) is apparently not calculated correctly anymore what causes the image not to expand to whole screen width. (It does expand but not far enough)

Here is the log output for a game where the problem occurs:

************ CRTSwitchRes Debug output ************

Code:
CRT Resolution: 3840x200
Refresh Rate: 60.000000

[libretro INFO] Resolution changed 640x400 => 320x200 [INFO] Environ SET_GEOMETRY. [INFO] SET_GEOMETRY: 320x200, aspect: 1.333. [INFO] Paused.

Would be grateful for advice, help,
best

Hello, @alphanu

There's one thing that is not clear to me

From now on, your work regarding CRTSwitchres will only be available through MME4CRT builds or it wil be merged to Retroarch upstream as well?

Thanks!

  Basic Linux setup questions

Thanks @ArcadeTV

There are always changes that don't get committed to RA This will be either because they don't want them or because that may not be relevant to that masses.

The auto setup script wad designed for users who already have a desktop environment with x11. You would need to install xserver headers before running the script. after which you would need to run

Code:
startx retroarch
Still something I'm looking into.

I am modifying emulation station to use as a front-end but this might take a while.

I have already forked RetroPi an edited the necessary files so it uses MME4CRT instead of RA. I have not tested it however. You can find this here if you want to test it.

Linux Interlaced bug fix. All new CRT_DYNAMIC_VSYNC
Posted by: alphanu - 02-20-2019, 10:17 PM - Forum: Latest News - Replies (6)

New dynamic VSYNC fixes the interlaced bug on Linux and possible for windows. It also reduced input lag.

Check out the video here.

We are currently still looking into this issue. However, as a work around you can change your video driver to SDL2. Performance wise it is just as good but CRT switching is slower and jerky.

Hopefully, well have a better fix soon.

CRT 15Khz Resolution Switching

CRT SwitchRes will turn on, on the fly. However, you will need to restart RetroArch to disable it. With CRT SwitchRes enable RetroArch will start in 2560 x 240 @ 60.

Before enabling the CRT SwitchRes options please make sure you have installed CRTEmudriver and installed some modelines. You will need to install these in static mode. this option can be found in the setting for VMMaker. The minimum modelines for all games to switch correctly are:

  • 2560 x 192 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 200 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 240 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 224 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 237 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 256 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 254 @ 55.000000

  • 2560 x 448 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 480 @ 60.000000

Install these modelines replacing 2560 with your desired super resolution. The above resolutions are NTSC only so if you would be playing any PAL content please add PAL modelines:

  • 2560 x 192 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 200 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 240 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 224 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 288 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 237 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 254 @ 55.000000

  • 2560 x 448 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 480 @ 50.000000

Some games will require higher PAL resolutions which should also be installed:

  • 2560 x 512 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 576 @ 50.000000
Ideally install all these resolutions and everything will work great.

Super Resolutions

The default super resolution is 2560. It is displayed just under the CRT switch option, which can be found in video settings. This can be changed within the CRTSwitchRes options. The only compatible resolutions are 1920, 2560 and 3840. Any other resolutions will be ignored and native switching will be activated.

Native Resolutions

If native resolutions are activated you will need a whole new set of modelines:

  • 256 x 240 @ 50.006977 SNESpal

  • 256 x 448 @ 50.006977 SNESpal

  • 512 x 224 @ 50.006977 SNESpal

  • 512 x 240 @ 50.006977 SNESpal
