  Basic Linux setup questions
Posted by: ArcadeTV - 02-25-2019, 02:47 PM - Forum: Support - No Replies

Thanks @ArcadeTV

There are always changes that don't get committed to RA This will be either because they don't want them or because that may not be relevant to that masses.

The auto setup script wad designed for users who already have a desktop environment with x11. You would need to install xserver headers before running the script. after which you would need to run

Code:
startx retroarch
Still something I'm looking into.

I am modifying emulation station to use as a front-end but this might take a while.

I have already forked RetroPi an edited the necessary files so it uses MME4CRT instead of RA. I have not tested it however. You can find this here if you want to test it.

  Interlaced issues workaround

We are currently still looking into this issue. However, as a work around you can change your video driver to SDL2. Performance wise it is just as good but CRT switching is slower and jerky.

Hopefully, well have a better fix soon.

  Windows resolutions needed for MME4CRT
Posted by: alphanu - 02-18-2019, 04:11 PM - Forum: Knowledge base - No Replies

CRT 15Khz Resolution Switching

CRT SwitchRes will turn on, on the fly. However, you will need to restart RetroArch to disable it. With CRT SwitchRes enable RetroArch will start in 2560 x 240 @ 60.

Before enabling the CRT SwitchRes options please make sure you have installed CRTEmudriver and installed some modelines. You will need to install these in static mode. this option can be found in the setting for VMMaker. The minimum modelines for all games to switch correctly are:

  • 2560 x 192 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 200 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 240 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 224 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 237 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 256 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 254 @ 55.000000

  • 2560 x 448 @ 60.000000

  • 2560 x 480 @ 60.000000

Install these modelines replacing 2560 with your desired super resolution. The above resolutions are NTSC only so if you would be playing any PAL content please add PAL modelines:

  • 2560 x 192 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 200 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 240 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 224 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 288 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 237 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 254 @ 55.000000

  • 2560 x 448 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 480 @ 50.000000

Some games will require higher PAL resolutions which should also be installed:

  • 2560 x 512 @ 50.000000

  • 2560 x 576 @ 50.000000
Ideally install all these resolutions and everything will work great.

Super Resolutions

The default super resolution is 2560. It is displayed just under the CRT switch option, which can be found in video settings. This can be changed within the CRTSwitchRes options. The only compatible resolutions are 1920, 2560 and 3840. Any other resolutions will be ignored and native switching will be activated.

Native Resolutions

If native resolutions are activated you will need a whole new set of modelines:

  • 256 x 240 @ 50.006977 SNESpal

  • 256 x 448 @ 50.006977 SNESpal

  • 512 x 224 @ 50.006977 SNESpal

  • 512 x 240 @ 50.006977 SNESpal

  • 512 x 448 @ 50.006977 SNESpal

Achieving the best picture using Bettle PSX at 240p
Posted by: tisurame - 02-17-2019, 01:15 PM - Forum: General discussion - Replies (5)

What do you think it's the better way to achieve the best picture on a standard CRT using Bettle PSX?

While using the Vulkan driver and the Bettle hardware render, I prefer to increase the internal resolution to 8x and use a horizontal resolution of 2560.

Using the the software render, anything above 2x of internal resolution is too slow, so I prefer to use 640x240 with the internal resolution at 2x.

I'm still not sure if doing this kind of thing produces any scaling artifact. I hope not.

PSX games looks MUCH better with a higher horizontal resolution while maintaining 240p. Very sharp.

There is also a new option called Super Sampling (downsample from internal upscale) that makes the graphics looks very smooth, but too blurry for my taste.

  240p and 31khz
Posted by: floppynojutsu - 02-17-2019, 08:12 AM - Forum: General discussion - Replies (4)

Hello Alphanu,

A while ago, you spoke about 240p with 31khz CRT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_pYmNG89RQ

Can we achieve this mode with Windows + Retroarch + MME4CRT ?
I've a Trinitron Multiscan 20sfII CRT for testing.
Specials settings needed ? CRTemudriver is needed ?

Thanks a lot !
